School Nurse (Registered Nurse)

Queen Margaret's School
Contract
On-site
Duncan, British Columbia, Canada

Queen Margaret’s School (QMS) is seeking a compassionate, highly professional Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Health Services team on a fixed-term basis from April 1 to June 20, 2026, working 20 hours per week.

Located on a beautiful 30-acre campus in the heart of Duncan, BC, QMS is a vibrant Preschool–Grade 12 day and boarding school. Our community includes both local and international students, and we are deeply committed to supporting the holistic wellbeing of every young person in our care.

The Role

As School Nurse, you are a steady, trusted presence within a vibrant community of students aged 3–19. Working within the RN Scope of Practice and in accordance with the professional standards of the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), you will provide high-quality clinical care and coordinated support across both day and boarding programs.

Based primarily in our on-campus Health Centre, your role extends across campus — from classrooms and playgrounds to athletic fields and our fully integrated on-campus Equestrian Centre. Your work ensures students feel safe, supported and ready to thrive — academically, socially and personally.

In This Role, You Will…

Be a calm, steady presence in the daily life of the School — providing professional nursing care that ensures students feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

You will:

  • Deliver comprehensive nursing assessment, care and follow-up within the RN Scope of Practice
  • Support students from Preschool to Grade 12 with developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive care
  • Assess and manage acute illness and injury, including those arising from athletics and equestrian programming
  • Develop and monitor Individual Health Care Plans for students with chronic conditions
  • Respond confidently to medical emergencies across campus and coordinate with EMS when required
  • Maintain accurate, confidential health records and ensure compliance with professional and regulatory standards
  • Partner closely with faculty, counsellors, boarding staff and families to provide coordinated, holistic care
  • Support boarding students living away from home, including accompanying them to medical appointments when needed
  • Contribute to school-wide wellness initiatives, health education and preventative care efforts

Above all, you will bring both clinical expertise and human connection to a role that sits at the heart of student wellbeing.

We Are Looking For

A Registered Nurse who brings both clinical expertise and genuine human connection to their work.

You are:

  • A graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program
  • Currently registered and in good standing with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
  • Current in CPR certification (Level C or equivalent)
  • Skilled in clinical assessment and triage, with the ability to think critically and act decisively
  • Calm, steady and confident in urgent or emergent situations
  • Organised, detail-oriented and committed to clear, accurate documentation

You have the ability to connect meaningfully with students from Preschool through Grade 12 — adjusting your communication and approach so that a four-year-old feels just as safe and understood as a seventeen-year-old.

You build strong, respectful working relationships with colleagues and families. You communicate with empathy and professionalism, value collaboration, and understand that student wellbeing is strengthened through partnership.

Your experience includes:

  • Pediatrics, community health or adolescent health (preferred)
  • Experience and care in athletic injuries (considered an asset)

Above all, you understand that nursing in a school setting is both a clinical responsibility and a relational one — and you approach both with care, integrity and heart.
